A pair of Cobalt blue antique vases decorated with scenes based on the work of Angelica Kaufmann.
An ornate pair of cobalt blue antique vases stamped with Empire Works Stoke-on-Trent. Dated: 1896-1912
These adorable vases have double handles and are decorated with scenes based on the works of Angelica Kaufmann (1741-1807), a Swiss-born painter who was a artist for Adam Brothers an English furniture manufacturers, between 1766 and 1781. Kaufmann was said to be a child prodigy and allegedly made her first commissioned piece before she was 13. She designed small-scale pictorial subjects in the neoclassic manner and painted portraits as well as historical and classical pictures that were later reproduced on chinaware made across Europe.
One displays three maidens with cupid and the other, romantically shows a fair maiden being caressed by cupid.
I would like to sell them as a pair but will consider selling separately.
